Grounding Rituals for Everyday
Weaving rituals into our lives can be the ultimate catalyst for change. I believe daily rituals, are the magical foundation that makes us whole. Rituals are the ultimate statement of self care. Giving your self a devoted moment to connect with your higher self, in the form of a gentle breath in. Is a whisper of love to your soul, deepening your connection to your place in this world.
Implementing daily grounding rituals is how we support and balance our mind, body, and spirit. Daily rituals, no matter how small, have the power to transform our lives.
I know when I wake up and set time for intention, it transforms my whole entire day.
Small mindful rituals, are tiny moments of loving self-discipline are the window to deeper joy and awareness. It seems to me that the biggest connection is that when I have those days where everything goes wrong and the children are bouncing off the walls… if I retrace my steps it turns out that these are the days I did not start with ritual.
- Forget your phone – picking up your phone as soon as you wake up is an assault to the soul. I read that somewhere once, and I wanted to immortalise it as a mantra. Sit in silence and check in with your body instead, you will find more wisdom there, trust me.
- Journal – Oh my dear journal my sweet companion. sometimes I love you and sometimes I hate you. The days I hate you seem to be the days I need you the most. Write it down.
- Breathwork and Visualisation – how do you know when you are doing it right? when it transforms your life. it is funny how we breathe every day, but we are hardly even breathing. Those deep belly breaths are so healing and the most incredible connection between our bodies and soul selves. Search breath work guided meditations if you are a beginner… Also give visualisations a go. As a creative I find a moment in the morning dedicated to visualisation activates my creative side!
- Make your bed, wash the breakfast dishes and clear surface clutter – You think at almost 40 years of age I would be better at morning chores, but I am not. The thing is, it does change my whole day and mindset when I do these things. I keep a big basket for picking up loose items that do not belong in our main living area. Just keeping the room clear of clutter helps immensely.
- Drink more water – no explanation needed.
- Get Creative – Creativity does not have to be elaborate and artsy, it could just be adding extra nourishing herbs into your meal, or adding a pretty scarf to your outfit! for me, creative time is the ultimate ritual.
- Movement – stretch, dance or do a bit of yoga. move in some way everyday.
- Comforting moments of pause for cups of tea – All throughout the day. go out to your garden if you have one and pick fresh herbs. take your shoes off and feel the earth while you are there.
- Get out side – have moments outside and soak in that sun for a minimum of 15mins daily.
- Gratitude before meals – I grew up in a home where there wasn’t a lot of freedom around food as, frankly we could not afford it. So now I am in a position where we are able to provide fresh quality food for our children, you know we are going to make sure we pause for thanks, as it is such a privilege to have food, let alone access to quality nourishing meals and clean water. This needs acknowledgment, daily.
And the bonus one, the most important of them all…
11. Bed Time self care – the Mama wind down. Oils, lotion, books and journaling. make a mindful effort to set healthy phone boundaries in the evening. I try to do this just before meals I switch it off. It doesn’t always happen that way and there are sometimes I do the great big scroll-athon after the kids go to bed. I know it isn’t amazing, but I am working on it!
The best thing is, you can adapt all of these to what ever you need and even to include your little loves.
