Beautiful slow and connected mornings at playgroup. Often, my mums tell me how playgroup is just as much for them as it is for their babes. The connection, the community, the nurture, and they have been learning a new skill!

They have been really enjoying stitching little hand-made treasures for their littlest loves. I am so proud of them all 🩷

It truly makes my heart sing.

It was a rainy morning this morning, and quite a few families stayed in, which means we had a small intimate group today.

Early Autumn Blessings at our little Playgroup 🍂🌸

As the autumn weather is changing from warm to cool, the change in the breeze dancing around us, we gather together to bake bread – a simple yet magical ritual that warms our hearts and hands.

In our playgroup, we don't just bake bread, we weave stories, songs, and joy into every knead and fold.

It’s a beautiful way to connect with nature’s rhythms, as the dough rises and changes to bread just like the world around us is going through a significant change. Soon the cool weather will settle in.

Each little hand that gently presses and molds the dough is planting tiny imaginary seed in the garden of creativity and mindfulness.

And what’s a bread-making moment without a song? 🎶 From the soft hum of "this is the way we knead the dough" to the lively "patty - cake - patty cake," our songs float through the air, adding an extra sprinkle of magic to the process.

The melodies help ground us, inviting both the children and the grown-ups into a calm, joyous rhythm. I can not wait to start making hot cross buns with the families in the coming weeks!

Now, as autumn unfolds its golden colors, we’re surrounded by the vibrant gift of fresh flowers on our bread table – a gift and a reminder of the beauty in simplicity.

These blooms mirror the warmth and sweetness of the bread, friendship and filling our space with gratitude and delight.

We are so thankful for this season of warmth, creativity, and connection.

May every loaf we bake rise with joy, and may every day bring more moments of shared wonder.

Oh, early autumn, slowly we go. The magic of early autumn has arrived in our little Waldorf playgroup!

There’s something so special about the cozy rhythm of this season — the warmth of freshly baked bread filling the old house, the comforting clink of tea cups shared among friends, and the joy of storytelling that wraps us all in its embrace. How beautiful are the critter shaped bread the children made today?

Today, we told the whimsical tale of the pancake that ran away, giggling together as it journeyed through the kitchen, to be discovered by the wee little mouse! And of course, we sang the Apple Star song, letting our voices dance like falling leaves. ⭐️

But the most heartwarming part? Stitching together tiny felt mice from the story, each one crafted with love and care, ready to be a cherished companion for our little ones. 🐭🧵

Autumn truly brings out the magic in our hearts — the joy of being present in each moment, the beauty of simple crafts, and the warmth of community.

🌈 What is your favourite colour telling you?

As a Waldorf inspired playgroup facilitator, I have the privilege of watching children connect with the world through the vibrant energy of colour. Our beautiful playroom is carefully curated with natural materials and beautiful colours to create a soothing and sensory rich environment.

One of my favourite moments is when we gather with our large rainbow silk for the goodbye song. The joy it brings to the children is so contagious. It's so beautiful watching them interact and connect with each other in these special moments.

But have you ever wondered why these rainbow colours are so important for our emotional well-being?

Each colour in the rainbow holds unique energy, nurturing different aspects of our emotional life:

🌈 Red – Grounding and energizing, it encourages feelings of strength and confidence.

🌈 Orange – Stimulating creativity and joy, it awakens our sense of playfulness and vitality.

🌈 Yellow – Bringing warmth and light, it helps us feel positive, optimistic, and connected to our inner light.

🌈 Green – Calming and balancing, green nurtures feelings of peace, harmony, and growth.

🌈 Blue – Soothing and calming, it supports communication and emotional expression.

🌈 Violet – Uplifting and spiritual, violet inspires calm, introspection, and a connection to the larger world around us.

I have really been drawn to pink latley, and apparently, the colour pink is often associated with warmth, compassion, and nurturing. Which makes sense to me 🩷

The rainbow reminds us that all emotions, just like colours, are part of a beautiful spectrum. By embracing this rainbow energy, we open ourselves to emotional balance, joy, and well-being.

Early Autumn looks like little hand sewn fish in a

Early Autumn looks like little hand sewn fish in autumn hues, sitting together and sewing, connecting over fresh chai spiced tea, and the crunch of the first autumn leaves in the garden.

The weather is still warming our souls with the sun full and loving in its bright embrace.

For something a little different, I told a story from a book, Bowerbird Blues. It's such an enchanting story about a bird seeking treasure for it to find love was what it was looking for all along.

Next week, we will make beautiful nests adorned blue to represent the cosy turning in of Autumn and the beautiful blue of summer skies and the deep ocean that surrounds the town in which we live.

Our little autumn fish were inspired by my boys and their endless fishing adventures. I made the pattern large enough for the children to easily sew if they wished. I originally planned to embroider them, but was worried the children would lose interest.

As I was making them up, I couldn't go without adding some Goldie the Goldfish inspired scales by @natalietrusler - they didn't look complete without them! And I am glad I did as they are perfect for the little ones learning to sew. This project will be done over two weeks.

One of the slides is of my little one making and designing his own fish. He even gifted one of his fish to the playgroup children.

Little boats made by tiny hands and with love ❤️

Making these little boats has been so more than just learning how to make something – it has truly cultivated a sense of pride and accomplishment for the children. They were so happy with them. The act of creating something from start to finish connects children to their inner sense of creativity and their ability to shape the world around them. 🌟

When we make by hand, we also honor the process. Each stitch, each carving, each painted brushstroke is a moment of mindfulness and presence. These activities help children understand the value of slow, intentional work in a fast-paced world.

By taking our time, we celebrate the journey, not just the outcome. The beauty lies in the learning and growth, not the final product.

So, let’s encourage our children to embrace their creativity, explore with their hands, and create with their hearts!

We used Life of Colour pens from @yourwildbooks to jazzy up our boats ✨️

We had a wonderful morning at playgroup, creating

We had a wonderful morning at playgroup, creating little wooden sailboats in the garden!

Our amazing playgroup friend Mark kindly pre-cut these tiny boats from recycled pine wood pallets, ready for our little creators to shape and personalize!

The children got to work sanding their own boats, giving them a smooth finish – building fine motor skills and practising patience in the process!

The excitement grew as they then decorated their boats using vibrant Life of Colour paint pens (from @yourwildbooks) and oiled them to bring out the beautiful wood grain and to seal them ready for sailing!

Handwork like this is so important for children's development. It helps them improve focus, creativity, and coordination while nurturing a sense of pride in their work. They absolutely loved making these and they all look so unique and special.

Next week, we can't wait to add the mast and sails – stay tuned for the final creations!

In early childhood, beauty is not just about aesthetics—it's a way of fostering a deep connection with the world around us. By creating a beautiful, nurturing environment, we help children feel safe, inspired, and connected to their inner creativity.

And when I say a beautiful environment, I don't mean expensive toys. At home, you can bring this focus on beauty into everyday life in simple yet meaningful ways:

Create a calm, welcoming space with natural materials, soft colours, and comforting textures.

Encourage nature play, bringing children outdoors to explore the beauty of the natural world. And bringing the outdoors in by displaying nature treasure on a special shelf or table.

Use storytelling, music, and art to engage their imagination, sparking their sense of wonder.

These small moments build a foundation of beauty and harmony, fostering an appreciation for the world your children are growing into.

Why is this so important? The early years (from birth to age 7) are a time of deep, sensory-based learning, forming the basis for all future development. During this critical period, children absorb everything around them, and a beautiful environment supports their emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.

Understanding the seven-year life cycle—where each cycle represents a new phase of growth—reminds us that the first seven years lay the groundwork for the rest of a child’s life.

As the warmth of summer settles in, the rhythm of our days at playgroup becomes a gentle flow of exploration, creativity, and connection with the outside world. Today was a hot one!

The children are invited to immerse themselves in the simple joys of the season — from barefoot walks on the grass to playing with our water table, remaining outside to play most of the morning only to retreat indoors for gentle and quiet play when it all gets too hot.

The rhythm of our playgroup day is grounded in nurturing routines, offering both freedom and structure.

Through seasonal crafts, outdoor play, and stories that celebrate the beauty of summer, we cultivate a deep sense of wonder and connection to the world around us.

Let’s embrace the slow pace of summer and allow the children to be fully present in the magic of the season.

Busy hands, busy hearts, and busy minds today at playgroup. Tuesdays group is always so completely immersed in the rhythm of the morning and deep in purposeful work and play!

Most of these families have been coming to playgroup for one whole year, and some of them were in my playgroup when I was facilitating for the local waldorf initiative. It's such a treasured thing watching them grow 🌱

I wanted to share a reel that showed the independence that playgroup fosters. After a little time, they now just know what comes next as they are so well versed in the rhythm of the morning. They rarely need prompts from me they just transition so smoothly. It's a very busy and productive group on Tuesdays. There is rarely a toy un-played with!

Mother Ocean's Babies are our wee little nature ta

Mother Ocean's Babies are our wee little nature table craft for this week. I wrote a story for Valentine's Day with an Ocean theme, considering we are in the height of summer!

The story is about a boy with the kindest of hearts, he helps Mother Oceans little baby, return to the sea and that is when he realises his kind heart is how he shows love to the world around him.

It's a beautiful way to show children the importance of kindness and shining their light.

Although truthfully, we didn't quite get through the story today as our Monday babe's are still quite small. We usually only sing one or two songs, and I significantly reduce the story size for the little ones. The mums did enjoy the craft, and I did, too!

These are made with wool roving, pipe cleaners, a wooden bead, and a sea shell bed.

I have made a similar craft with walnut shells at Christmas and made little baby Jesus - it's very similar to that and where I got my idea from. And we collected the perfect shells this summer to make wee little beds.

To Valentine or not to Valentine? 🩷 heartfelt n

To Valentine or not to Valentine? 🩷 heartfelt non-commercial ideas for celebrating love with children is the theme of my latest blog post. I also wrote a newsletter for my playgroup families featuring our special Valentine story I wrote and our circle time songs as well as a few more ideas for connecting with your little one on love day. I am currently trying to get the website popup working with the news letter as a downloadable.

I am going back to slow and intentional use of social media, which means I am heading back into the blogging and newsletter world. I am not a fan of doom scrolling, so I'll be returning to a place where content felt good to me. And I really don't mind if it means I get less likes, I prefer quality followers who take their time with my content over fast likes.

I am also turning a lot of my playgroup content into online content so everyone can experience the Billy Buttons Magic. So stay tuned!

I miss the days of mindful internet consumption and writing that feels like medicine. Heartfelt connection is absolutely one of my main themes in business this year!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following along with my wee little backyard playgroup journey and to all the families who joined me in 2024.

Although I am not new to facilitating playgroups, this year marks the first year I branched out and did it on my own. And I am so glad i did.

Everyone who knows me knows, this is just my thing! And I am so glad to be joyfully just doing my thing.

2025 is going to be so, so exciting. I can't wait to share all the amazing things I have planned. I have learnt so much and have a few surprises planned for you all!

Thank you to my community, all my billy buttons this year, and to everyone within my wider community who supported my little dream in 2024.

This is my life work and what I am truly aligned with. It took me a while to figure it out. You know the old chestnut, what is the meaning of my life? for me It was what I have been doing all along, in some way my whole life. Living life creatively and connecting with others, holding space for their experiences, and healing through my own so I can always be present.

And what an honour it is to use my lived experiences to hold space in such a special way ✨️
