Morning Rituals for Children
The morning, the most important part of our day as parents. It seems, if I greet the morning unprepared the rest of our day seems to slowly fall a part. Especially if we have some place to be. I have made a conscious effort to really start our mornings with ritual. Rituals are acts that we come to with love and reverence. They are the foundations that hold our family close and are the memory seeds that stay with our children for the rest of their life.
Father sun greets us for a new day after our long night in the dream world. He rises early to warm the earth and waken all living things. The mornings are slow and held in love in the
the natural world. Mornings are an important part of the rhythm of our world.
What a gift each new day is. Starting our day with this sentiment in our hearts is a gift we can give to our children.
Rising a little early to have a mindful cup of tea, putting out a fresh table cloth and setting the table for breakfast, lighting a candle, saying a blessing or morning verse and having food prepared before our children rise is a beautiful way to introduce a simple morning ritual that will fill our spirits with light so we can embark upon our new day…
Both my children naturally wake between 15 mins a part from each other so it gives me time to greet them individually with a big hug and a moment to check in with them.
Taking the rush and stress out of morning has been a mindful focus for me. Making morning ritual a consistent part of our daily rhythm has been a game changer when it comes to the mood and feel of the rest of our day. Our favourite morning verse is:
Good Morning Dear Earth
Good morning dear earth
Good morning dear sun
Good morning dear flowers
and the fairies, every one
Good morning dear beasts
and the birds in the trees
Good morning to you
Good morning to me
What are some ways you introduce ritual into your mornings?
