Easter Egg Candles

There really is something rather amazing and therapeutic about crafting with bees wax, the smell just promotes cozy!Last year we made these amazing egg shaped bees wax candles, we enjoyed the process so much we decided to give them ago once more. We are planning to use these as a part of the Easter gifts we are putting together for family and friends.

To make some too, you will need:
Clean blown egg shells, make sure the larger hole is on the top of the egg and not the bottom.
Bees wax, either in blocks or Pastilles
Candle wick
Dried Flowers

The first thing you need to do is safely melt your beeswax, use a double boiler on your stove top. Another option I sometimes use is a clean recycled tin can, I put my wax inside and then sit the tin inside a pot of boiling water. you only want to fill the water so it measures a little less than half way up the can. Melt enough beeswax to fill the number of egg shaped beeswax candles I want to make.

Prepare your wick by cutting it to length and then dipping it a few times into the wax, allow the wax to cool, this will make it stiff and straight.

Once the wick has cooled slightly and is straight insert it through the empty egg shell and out of the hole in the bottom. Seal the bottom hole either with the waxy wick or with clay. Put each shell one prepared in an egg carton to hold them upright for when you pour the wax. Fill each shell with melted wax, try and fill the whole egg in one pour. Do not worry if a little wax leaks out the bottom of the shell, this will not affect your candle. Once complete allow several hours for them to cool completely.

Once cool, crack and peel away your shell to reveal your beautiful egg shaped candle. Roll gently in dried flowers afterwards. another option is to add the flowers into the wax while it is melted.
