Crayon Resist, Magical Easter Eggs

Have you heard of crayon resist painting before? Essentially you draw patterns with crayon first, when you then add paint, the crayon markings resist the paint and the magic patterns show through. Using a white crayon adds an element of ‘magic’. As what appears to be a normal white piece of paper is actually encoded with some magical markings.

I remember doing these as a kid and absolutely loving them, so much! The boys and I usually do this activity in seasonal bursts using watercolours that match the season we are currently in. Being autumn in Easter was a perfect opportunity to present orange red and yellow paints with magical Easter eggs!

There is very little to clean up and it is a nice cozy afternoon mindfulness activity. Think, rainbows, mushrooms, treasure maps… The options are endless!

The kids really dig it and the simplicity is just a god send on those afternoons that just call for a little magic!
